S2DT Energy Scanner – User Testing Guide

Welcome to S2DT Energy Scanner Beta Testing!

This guide will help you test the app and provide valuable feedback to improve the experience for all users.


What is S2DT Energy Scanner?

S2DT Energy Scanner is an iOS app that uses your iPhone’s camera and LiDAR sensor to:

  • Scan rooms in 3D
  • Detect energy appliances automatically (refrigerators, TVs, washers, etc.)
  • Estimate power consumption for your home or office
  • Export 3D models for visualization and analysis
  • Create energy reports with color‑coded appliances

Before You Start

Device Requirements

You MUST have one of the following LiDAR‑equipped devices:

iPhone:

  • 12 Pro / 12 Pro Max
  • 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max
  • 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max
  • 15 Pro / 15 Pro Max

iPad:

  • iPad Pro (2020 or later)

Software & Environment Requirements

  • OS: iOS 16.6 or later (iOS 17+ recommended)
  • Storage: ~100 MB of free space
  • Environment: Good lighting in the room you intend to scan

Installing the App

TestFlight Beta Installation

  1. Install TestFlight from the App Store.
  2. Open the invitation link sent to you.
  3. Tap “Accept”“Install.”
  4. Launch the app from your home screen.

Quick Start Guide

First Launch

  • Open the app (look for the S2DT icon).
  • Grant permissions:
    • Camera: Required
    • Photos: Optional
  • The main screen will display your saved scans (initially empty).

Your First Scan (5 Minutes)

Best room: Kitchen or laundry room.

Steps:

  1. Tap “+” (top right) to start scanning.
  2. Slowly pan your iPhone around the room, pointing at walls, floors, and appliances.
  3. Tap “Done” or “Finish.”
  4. Your scan will now appear on the main list with details and power estimates.

Detailed Testing Protocols

Test 1: Basic Room Scanning (Essential)

  • Goal: Verify that scanning works without crashes.
  • Steps: Scan a small room (bathroom/office) for 2–3 minutes.
  • Check: Is the camera view clear? Do white LiDAR lines appear?

Test 2: Appliance Detection (Essential)

  • Goal: Confirm accurate detection and labeling.

Appliances to test:

  • Kitchen: Refrigerator, Stove/Oven, Dishwasher, Coffee Machine
  • Living/Office: Television, Monitor, Air Purifier
  • Laundry: Washer/Dryer

Steps:
Point at each appliance for 2–3 seconds from multiple angles.

Check:
Are labels correct? Are power values shown?

Test 3: 3D Model Export (Important)

  • Goal: Verify USDZ export.
  • Steps:
    1. Open a scan
    2. Tap Export USDZ
    3. Open the Files app → On My iPhoneS2DT
  • Check:
    • Does the .usdz file open?
    • Are appliances color‑coded?

Visual Testing & Color Coding

Each appliance type should have a unique color:

Stove Red
Oven Orange
TV Green
Washer Cyan
Monitor Teal

Common Issues & Solutions

Black screen:
→ Check camera permissions and ensure your device supports LiDAR.

No appliances detected:
→ Move slowly, ensure good lighting, keep 1–2 meters distance.

Wrong appliance type:
→ Report it; the AI improves with feedback.


How to Report Issues

Include:

  • Device model (e.g., iPhone 13 Pro)
  • iOS version
  • App version (from TestFlight)
  • Description: Expected vs. actual behavior

Example Bug Report

  • Bug: App crashes when exporting USDZ
  • Device: iPhone 14 Pro (iOS 17.2.1)
  • Steps:
    1. Scan kitchen
    2. Tap scan
    3. Tap Export USDZ
    4. App crashes immediately

Tips for Best Results

  • Start in room corners
  • Move slowly
  • Ensure appliances are visible (remove obstacles)

Best rooms: Kitchens, Laundry rooms
Avoid: Large open spaces on your first test
Do NOT test:

  • Outdoors
  • In darkness
  • Expecting detection of furniture (beds/chairs)
